Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy And Nutrition

Benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, refers to a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland, which surrounds the urethra in men. The prostate tends to enlarge as a man grows older, and nearly all men over the age of 50 experience some symptoms as a result. The enlarged gland presses on the bladder, causing the sensation of a frequent need to urinate. At the same time, it constricts the urethra, which makes urination difficult and sometimes painful due to inflammation.

BPH is a natural result of aging and cannot be cured. Traditional treatment uses medications and/or surgery, which can result in impotence, incontinence, and an increased risk of heart disease. Recent research, however, has shown that nutritional supplements can help ease the symptoms of BPH.

Recently, systematic reviews have shown excellent results from beta sitosterol, a plant lipid extracted from Prunus africanum (pygeum) bark and other plants native to Africa. This lipid is believed to alleviate mild symptoms of BPH. Beta sitosterol is difficult to obtain through diet alone, but Natur-Leaf®, a natural dietary supplement, can help supply your body with this important nutrient.

Natur-Leaf® is a proprietary phytonutrients blend obtained from the sprouts of African plants, pygeum bark, and the wild African potato root. Pygeum bark is said to reduce the swelling in prostate tissue, while other plant sterols can act as anti-inflammatories to reduce bothersome symptoms without side effects. Natur-Leaf® also contains beta sitosterol. This naturally occurring plant lipid has been shown to improve urinary function and relieve symptoms of BPH. As an added benefit, Natur-Leaf® also contains vitamins, minerals, and other phytonutrients.
